The Rubric

We rate nachos on a strict scale, balancing our appetites in a fair and definitive way. Nachos can score up to 13 points (10 base points, plus three possible bonus points) and, while any food can be rated on this system, it gets an automatic -3 for not being nachos. Because…. c’mon.

Our Nacho Qualification:

  • (Tortilla) chip base*

  • Cheese

  • 1 additional ingredient

*This is an ongoing point of contention, as Irish Nachos use potato chips as a base

Base Points:

  • 2 points for cheese quality

    • How stretchy is it? Does it taste distinct, while melding nicely with the other ingredients? Is it crispy at the edges?

  • 2 points for consistency

    • Is it cooked all the way through? Were there any naked chips? How evenly were the ingredients dispersed?

  • 2 points for general ingredient quality

    • Is there guacamole? How fresh is the produce?

  • 2 points for chip integrity

    • Were you able to scoop toppings up? Did any chips bend and flop over? Any sogginess or fragility?

  • 2 points for spice blend

    • Does it taste like nachos? How balanced is the flavor profile? How deep?

Bonus points:

+1 Is it worth it? (would you purchase it again)

+1 Quantity (is there an absolutely colossal amount)

+1 Presentation (is it beautiful)

-3 Not Nachos (does it fulfill the qualifications set down)
